Wearing braces (Orthodontics)
Wearing braces can make it very difficult to maintain a healthy oral environment, mainly due to the wire and brackets obstructing tooth brushing and flossing. Luckily there are ways to help improve your oral health environment while wearing corrective braces.
- Brushing with a soft Orthodontic toothbrush and using a fluoride toothpaste twice a day is one of the most proven ways to stay decay free. Fluoride makes teeth more resistant to the acids produced after eating or drinking and puts back minerals that are lost in the early stages of tooth decay. If you are needing extra protection against decay, brushing with NeutraFluor 5000 which is a maximum fluoride strength toothpaste twice a day in place of your regular toothpaste will help to provide the extra protection needed during othodontic treatment. Alternatively you can rinse with NeutraFluor 220 daily or NeutraFluor 900 weekly fluoride rinse which will also provide additional protection.
- Interdental Brushes are a good way to get in to the nooks and crannies where your toothbrush is having a hard time reaching.
- GC Tooth Mousse can help prevent plaque accumulation around brackets, arch wires, springs and other appliances and can assist the saliva in buffering acids produced by dental plaque. Regular application can prevent areas of decalcification forming and arrest and reverse white spots.
- After debanding, Tooth Mousse offers the perfect finishing treatment to optimise the appearance of the teeth.
